Liveaboard Review

The Argo liveaboard was built in 1985 and has created deep roots in the diving industry in Costa Rica over the last 35 years. It was refurbished in 2008 with modern features to become a luxury liveaboard. This liveaboard has a length of 39meters/129ft and a beamwidth of 7meters/26ft. The MV Argo has a cruising speed of 10 knots and it reaches it by using a CAT D398TA – 634 KW (850HP) @ 1225rpm engine. It will take you all around the pristine waters of Costa Rica.

Diving on the MV Argo in Costa Rica 

MV Argo liveaboard

The MV Argo is a stunning liveaboard with a rich history in the Costa Rica region. These waters are filled with large pelagic life, fish species and coral reef systems. There is a submersible on-board that will make sure you get to experience the underwater scenery uniquely. Moreover, the Argo is only one of five liveaboards that have the distinction of traveling to the Cocos Island Marine National Park. There are 15 crew members on the MV Argo that will cater to all your needs while traveling on the liveaboard.

Interior and entertainment areas

There are nine stateroom cabins on the MV Argo that have en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold showers. All of the cabins are spaciously designed and comes with windows or portholes that offer outlooks of the ocean. There are ample storage cupboards and desks available in these staterooms for your personal belongings and individual climate control features. You will also a personal satellite phone, big screen TV and email facilities.

The salon/lounge is the meeting grounds for guests when out of the water and comes with air-conditioning. There are large screen TV and media players for watching movies and playing music. What’s more, there is also a personal computer where you can edit your photos or look through the marine life collections. You will also find comfortable sofas with a mini-library if you want to catch up on some reading.

Deck Areas

The sun deck is also a hot-spot for guests between dives. This area has sun loungers with soft padding that are ideal for sunbathing or for an afternoon slumber. Moreover, at night you can sit under the gazillion stars and contemplate the happenings of the day.

Dive deck on the MV Argo

The dive deck is large enough for divers to move freely without bumping into one another. The crew and dive staff are always available to give you a helping hand with gear and getting in and out of the water. Some of the amenities on the dive deck include rebreathers, Nitrox and dive gear. To get you to some of the dive sites the MV Argo has three dive tenders. There is also a camera and charging stations for your equipment.

Deep-sea Submersible Submarine 

As an optional upgrade to your liveaboard package, you can include submarine trips on your diving trip. This fascinating extra is what sets the MV Argo apart from the rest of the liveaboards in the area and some would say the world. This submersible submarine can reach depths of 450meters/1500ft and will expose you to an underwater world only seen by a select few. You will have a 360-degree field of vision and this is the ideal way to move around in the ocean.

Food on the MV Argo

The chefs should be commended on their efforts in the kitchen daily. You can expect three main meals each day served in a buffet style. The meals will be a mix of Italian, International, and Costa Rican cuisines. There are also various snacks served throughout the day as well as soft drinks, coffee, tea, and drinking water. There are also alcoholic beverages at an added charge.


This fantastic liveaboard will take you all around the Costa Rican dive sites. Diving itineraries will last between 10-11 nights. The submersible also offers a unique way of exploring the underwater world. Dive destination will include Muelle Privado Galmar, Muelle Privado Galmar, and Cocos Islands.
