Deepblu Cosmiq+ - Review 2023

The Review

Right out of the box, I was immediately pleased with the Cosmiq+. Traditionally, wrist mount computers are either large and uncomfortable out of the water or cost a good deal to get a smaller size. The Cosmiq+ is only 70.6mm (2.78-inches) tall and 48.6mm (1.91-inches) wide. That makes the computer slightly larger than your average wristwatch, but not uncomfortably cumbersome.

The computer is only 20mm (.82-inches) thick, which is only slightly thicker than the watch I use for other outdoor sports. The thinner profile makes the Cosmiq+ less likely to snag and catch on gear and clothes while wearing of out of the water.

The other out of the box feature that I liked was the customization options. Deepblu has made this computer available in six different colors that let you choose the flair you want to flash on the dive deck. The wristband is also interchangeable to let you further choose your style.

In the Water

Once I got the Cosmiq+ strapped and ready to go I was pleased with how comfortable the band was. I can use it just as easily in a shorty as I can while diving in my nylon and Kevlar shelled drysuit. The screen has a diagonal size of 2.2-inches that is large enough to see all the important dive info.

In my research, I found complaints of certain features, like the ascent and safety stop displays, being hard to see in the water. However, the Bluetooth connection allows the computer to receive firmware updates wirelessly, and the recent updates have improved the display. I have had no issues reading time, depth, NDL, ascent, and safety stop.

The real problem with the display is that the negative image LCD is hard to read in bright light. The view is simple to overcome by shading with my off-hand. I found that deeper depths didn’t have the same problem, and the display was great at night. For shallow dives where the display is harder to read, I mostly need to track by bottom time, since I rarely get close to the multiple hour no-decompression limits in 35-feet and shallower dives.

Other Tech Features

I wouldn’t say that this watch is a solid choice for tech divers. You do have the option for Nitrox mode that is customizable for mixes of 21-40%. The Cosmiq+ does not have other gas mix options that are typically used by tech divers. My rating would be a computer that exceeds the needs of the recreational or professional diver (divemaster, guide, instructor, etc.).

The built-in dive log only holds 25 dives, but the ability to link to the Deepblu app lets me create a digital dive log. As an instructor and DM, I do a lot of diving and don’t always take the time to log every dive like I know I should. I love the simplicity of connecting to the app and downloading my details.

The integrated dive plan mode has been great for me to keep an accurate track of the dives I’ve done and the dives I want to do over a weekend on a liveaboard. The extra monitoring is a nice comfort when I am jumping in and out of the water taking divers on tours.

Overall, I was very pleased with the performance of the Cosmiq+. The screen has its drawbacks, but they are easy to overcome. The computer is light and comfortable. The battery only lasts about 6-7 hours but is rechargeable and easy to hook up with the magnetic charger.

In the end, you won’t find very many dive computers out there with the features and connectivity that the Cosmiq+ includes. Especially in the price range Deepblu sells this computer. If you’re looking for a new computer, this is a great direction to follow.
