Dive Equipment Review: Stahlsac Steel Rolling Bag 34 Inch

“They see me rolling, they hatin’”

Just like Chamillionaire, you’ll be humming along to this tune as you wheel your new 34-inch Stahlsac down the jetty towards the dive boat. This is the ultimate in dive bags, it’s the perfect size for airline check-in requirements, it’s not too heavy when it’s empty, and it’s durable enough to last for years to come.

If you’ve ever tried to stuff your scuba equipment into a poorly suited piece of luggage, you’ll know it’s often an exercise in futility, complete with fins sticking out where the zipper should be closing.

Avid divers who travel with their own gear usually prefer a dedicated bag, and the Stahlsac is just the piece of luggage for the task.

What You Need to Know About the Stahlsac Steel 34-Inch Rolling Bag

Let’s take a look at some of this bag’s best features:

Add-A-Bag Strap

I think we can unanimously agree that one of the most annoying things about travel is having one big bag and another smaller one. Balancing your smaller bag or laptop on top of the larger bag works momentarily but these usually fall off or destabilize the bigger bag.

We like the Add-A-Bag strap Stahlsac has included with its 34-inch dive bag. You can easily attach another smaller bag or even a medium-sized bag and roll both your bags around one-handed.

Durability

Stahlsac has put a lot of effort into ensuring its Steel range of dive-friendly rolling bags are made to last. The 34-inch model features extra-tough material on the stress points, such as the corners, and the reinforced frame can stand a beating or three.

While we wouldn’t go as far as deliberately dropping a scuba tank on this bag, it’s pleasing to know that if someone does, the frame and wheels are both replaceable meaning you won’t need to shell out for a whole new bag if one element goes awry.

Two-Compartment Design

While there are multiple smaller compartments inside this bag, and a few pockets on the outside, it’s the two big compartments that we’re most impressed by. One is breathable and the other is 100 percent waterproof.

There’s a couple of different ways you could use these. We reckon throwing all your scuba gear into one side and all your normal holiday attire into the other side is an easy way to keep everything sorted and organized.

At the end of the trip, any wet and/or nasty gear, be it dive stuff or otherwise, can go in the waterproof section and it can’t contaminate the rest of your stuff. Alternatively, stash wet stuff in the breathable compartment so it can air and won’t go moldy before the plane lands in your home nation. Either way works well.
