The 2023 update to Yamaha’s FX series’ Cruiser High output waverunner added features and versatility. This is a luxury boat with extra storage space and an optional recreational deck, or RecDeck, that adds a swimming or diving platform with a modular design for accessories. Those accessories include a backward-facing lounge chair, for example.
This is not a performance PWC, rather it’s a premium boat designed for comfort. While there is plenty under the hood–enough for wakeboarding, for example–this isn’t a trick boat. In fact, don’t expect to be rocking any donuts.
But a solo driver will be able to hit 60 mph and, where it lacks in playfulness, it makes up for it in stability and reliability. Even with two bigger riders, there’s no tipping scare. For more power, the supercharged FX SVHO is worth considering.
Our Overall Review
We have thoroughly tested - and read reviews from other experts and users. In summary, this is what we think:
Things we like:
-
Cruiser seating is comfortable
-
RecDeck does turn this boat into a whole lot more
-
Suitable for young and fresh as well as older, less agile riders
-
Stable handling for two
-
Digital systems are great
-
Storage is improved upon vs older models
-
Wakeboarding and skiing ready
-
Speedy enough and comfortable for longer trips
-
Hull materials and shape make it fuel efficient
Things we don't like:
It’s not supercharged
It’s not designed to do tricks (it doesn’t slip and do donuts so easily)
Where to buy:
It handles confidently when at speed and includes a no-wake setting for politeness. Docking is easy too, thanks to the thrust directional enhancement (TDE). The TDE will hum into gear at the slowest possible pace–forwards and backward.
The electronics are great with a 5’’ touchscreen. A quick run-down includes: GPS navigation with cruise control, real-time performance read-outs, security lock with PIN, Bluetooth connectivity (and built-in speakers) and digital settings for customizable performance.
