Above & Below the Waves

The Seabob F5 SR is the most powerful of this German company’s lineup of jet boards. It’s really an underwater jet body board that can be used by divers, snorkelers and swimmers. For those with the means, this is probably the most premium product in the electric body board segment.

What makes it so special is its way of being both a surface PWC and underwater scooter.

Although this jet model is probably the best product of its kind on today’s market, it certainly comes at a hefty price so it requires a great deal of consideration before purchasing. Have a look through our review so you know what to expect.

Speed

Seabob F5 SR has been transformed into a high-performance water toy thanks to its improved performance configuration and additional capabilities. The jet engine’s output has been raised to 4.5 kW, equivalent to 6hp. As a result, the thrust output has grown from a force of 680 N to a mind-boggling 745 N.

This bodyboard’s E-Jet Power System Driver is capable of speeds of up to 13.7 mph on the surface and 12.4 mph underwater with a 60-minute run duration.

As the most powerful model in the Seabob F5 series the manufacturers changed the gear ratio and added a seventh gear for enhanced command of the jet body board. This engine’s power may now be adjusted in seven different ways. By squeezing the triggers on the handles, the driving mechanism kicks in.

When light pressure is applied to the green sensor, the jet body board accelerates in a series of forceful thrusts until it reaches the required speed. By pushing the red sensor, the Seabob’s propulsion is decreased, and it slows down. Simply releasing the trigger will bring the board to a complete stop if necessary.

You can adjust this range of gears so the speeds increase the way you want them to. In low gear, you can cruise through the water at a leisurely speed but if you want to experience the F5 SR’s amazing propulsion through the water you just need to keep your thumb on that green button.

Performance

As the most powerful model in the Seabob F5 series the manufacturers changed the gear ratio and added a seventh gear for enhanced command of the jet body board. Although the it can reach depths of up to an impressive 10 meters, the onboard electronics can be customized to meet individual needs. A safety cut-off function guarantees that the dive depth set is not exceeded.

The newly built, high-performance electric-drive mechanism is a sound example of innovation, with its environmentally friendly technology. The motor is a synchronized high-torque drive unit with a 3-phase sinus power management system controlled by a microcontroller. This motor achieves the optimum amount of torque with exceptional efficiency thanks to the use of cutting-edge technology.

The new Seabob F5 SR is the epitome of efficiency and power, thanks to its high-performance motor. The pilot belt system was designed particularly for sporty driving at high speeds. The revolutionary belt system converts the huge push into a thrilling riding experience and even more water agility. In addition, two rear fins offer stability and assist enhance maneuverability to keep its pilots on the straight and narrow.

Finally, one of our favorite features includes that which no other electric jet body board of its kind has; a digital display for real-time battery and performance updates. The central cockpit is positioned directly in front of the driver’s eyes. The TFT color display properly displays all critical technical data from the engine electronics. It informs the pilot of the current driving performance as well as the set power level.

The accumulator charge state allows you to keep track of the remaining capacity with confidence. In addition, the driver receives real-time data on his dive depth and water temperature. The menu’s programming features may also be easily controlled via the TFT display.

Battery

Lithium-Ion accumulators supply the Seabob F5 SR’s driving mechanism with electricity. These high-capacity unique accumulators are a top-of-the-line component in the jet body board’s propulsion system, achieving speeds of about 14 mph for up to 1 hour on a single charge. When back out of the water, the usual charge duration is 7 hours, with a quick-charge option of 1.5 hours when using a 230-volt charger.

Despite having a considerably more powerful jet engine than other Seabob F5 models, the designers were able to increase battery capacity by streamlining the jet body board’s hydrodynamics.

Portability

When the Seabob F5 SR is in the water, its enhanced agility combined with its buoyancy makes it feel like it’s feather-light. But when the jet body board is out of the water, it’s a different story.

At a weight of almost 80lbs, we reckon only strong adults will be able to carry this around by themselves, so kids or adults with smaller builds will need some help get this bodyboard to the water. However, Seabob have done what they can to help with a super useful bag that comes with the purchase.

The Seabob bag is constructed with sturdy and tough material and has two handles to help you carry this around, however, the bag didn’t include shoulder straps – perhaps there are other Seabob bags available online but we felt this would be a very useful addition to the bag. Otherwise, it’s an ideal way to keep your Seabob safe and secure. The bag will save you room and protect your Seabob when you’re traveling or storing it.

Materials

The Seabob F5 SR represents a pinnacle of technological material advancement. This electric jet body board is meticulously handcrafted from high-quality materials.

The drive unit was constructed with quality carbon components, established ceramic coatings, and saltwater-resistant precious metals for the vehicle to withstand high impacts and the pressure of large depths while also remaining super hydrodynamic to maximize streamlining efficiency.

The driving mechanism is powered by Lithium-Ion accumulators, which are extremely efficient. Every detail reflects the rigorous quality standard.

Features

Several features have made the Seabob F5 SR bodyboard popular for bodyboarders and scuba divers. Here’s what they are:

  • The board boasts 7 power levels that can be engaged to suit the pilot’s need for speed.
  • The TFT color display properly displays all critical technical data from the engine electronics.
  • Capable of speeds of up to 13.7 mph on the surface and 12.4 mph underwater.
  • The Seabob charges in 7 hours but there is a quick-charge option of 1.5 hours.
  • The board can run at full speed for up to a 60-minute run duration.
  • There is a wide variety of colors and designs to choose from.
  • Rear fins enhance the bodyboard’s stability and maneuverability when diving.
  • Seabob F5 SR Cam system with two integrated cameras to record your excursion.
  • In-built cam storage and wifi so you can share your underwater adventures.

Price/ Quality Ratio

The board is extremely expensive so we cannot realistically say it’s ideal for everyone. However, if you happen to have $18,000 to spare, we believe it is certainly worth the price – you will not regret the fun that this board can offer.

When you consider that all the features that this electric jet body board boasts are likely to appear in a James Bond spy film, it’s no wonder we’re looking at these kinds of prices. In addition, having scanned the web for second-hand Seabobs, we discovered it’s not really a thing – this can only mean that people are holding on to the jet body board they invested so much in. This is a very good thing because it means this board will last and you will certainly reap the benefits for many years and holidays.

Generally speaking, electric body boards are costly owing to their high performance. More power demands not just bigger motors and batteries, but also better power control systems and, most importantly, more heat dissipation. All of this is reflected in the price, which is admittedly rather hefty.

The Seabob F5 SR is the ideal watersports toy since it can move both above and below water. The Seabob F5 SR is the most powerful watercraft in the SEABOB F5 series, with a strong engine capable of diving to a depth of 10m.

We recognize it is expensive, however, if you have the cash, you’re sure to have a wonderful time with this jet body board. We recommend the Seabob F5 SR for intermediate and advanced bodyboarders, snorkelers, or scuba divers.
