An electric surfboard, or jet board, allows you to surf on virtually any body of water, by motorizing your board and jetting you through the water. A jet board will provide you with one of the coolest and most adrenaline fuelled water sports experiences that can be enjoyed despite flatwater conditions.
Even in some of the best surf spots in the world that have the perfect breaking waves, your surfing experience still depends heavily on weather and sea conditions. Unless of course you have an electric surfboard.
The best electric surfboards are lightweight, fast and have long ride times. Most are propelled like jet skis and some have hydrofoils that lift the board over the water, like the Lift eFoil, for example. All jet boards are portable and have a range of customization options available to select from.

All the Electric Surfboards We've tested
Electric surfboards are gaining attention. The Radinn Carve is one that deserves comparatively more praise for its design and–primarily–the experience you get carving through the water.
The Carve is a shorter board than Radinn’s Freeride and is intended for more playfulness and performance. With optional foot straps, a rider can decide to try out some jumping and hopping over wake and even some 180-spins.
Compared to other boards, the Carve is an amazing candidate for beginners with a bit of board sports experience willing to use a day or two for some gnarly riding.
Once you get the hang of it, longer, more stable boards will seem too constrained for more advanced jet board riders. Remove the fins for even more tricks and fun!
Radinn’s platform is well thought out, making care, transport and charging totally secondary to riding. While electric surfboards will always be bulky and heavy because of the length and battery, the Carve has one of the best systems we’ve seen of all jet boards out there.

Guide to Electric Surfboards
More and more motorized surfboards are entering the market as batteries become more compact and technologies adapt to demand. There are generally two types of jet boards, an electric surfboard that works like a jet ski, with motors built into the board that push jets of water out the back; and hydrofoil- or eFoil boards with a propeller mounted on a blade that has wings for creating lift.
In the debate of hydrofoil vs electric surfboard, any decision might be predicated on whether or not you want a motorized board that also can be used as a body board. Hydrofoil boards don’t necessarily function so well in this capacity.
On the other hand, electric hydrofoil boards like the Lift eFoil provide a smooth ride, flying over the choppy water.
Both types of jet boards can also be used–with varying degrees of performance–to surf like traditional surf boards. Hydrofoil surfing is becoming more popular as videos demonstrating how smooth and chill a session can be–even on waves that don’t curl.
An additional board option, one that’s not as fast or flashy, is an electric SUP board. Motorized paddle boards can help weaker paddlers or provide a leisure experience. But there’s not much surfing involved.
Battery and Charging
Depending on whether or not your electric surfboard will be used from your boat or from the beach, keep in mind charging time and battery time. Otherwise, any jet board you get a chance to try will be a blast.
Last but not least, remember to rinse off your board of any sand and salt from the ocean. This will definitely help extend the life of this really pricey piece of kit.
Surfing Equipment
Depending on where you are surfing, the temperature and terrain can vary quite a bit. You might want to check out surfing equipment like wetsuits and water shoes.

Most riders stand up comfortably in one to two rides. A pro tip is to start at a lower power mode and get comfortable with the sensitivity of the throttle. If you’re looking for something that’s easier to ride but is just as thrilling, you might want to consider getting a jet body board.
Make sure to maintain your electric surfboard so that you can get the most out of your purchase. You simply rinse the board and the batteries with fresh water after the ride. For cosmetic reasons, this is advised when riding in salty waters.
Electric surfboards work by using a small battery operated engine to jet the surfboard forward, giving the rider the necessary forward momentum to stand up on the board and cruise over flat water, eliminating the need for waves. Electric surfboards normally generate their propulsion from propellers or jet streams and are powered by rechargeable batteries.
Electric surfboards can be extremely expensive as they are made using high tech parts and are more like jet propelled boats or jet skis than their traditional surfboard counterparts. The technology and materials used in the construction of electric surfboards increases the overall price of the product.
