This 2.3-meter-high and 2-meter-wide beach umbrella is a super stylish model with its hand-drawn lines and tassels dangling from the canopy. The polyester fabric also has UPF50+ for additional UV protection.

Its 32 mm-wide timber pole is sustainability-approved by FSC. The overall build of the Natural Instinct sun shade is stable and durable. However, compared to metal poles, a wooden pole can soak up water and compromise its lifespan.

There’s a tilting mechanism halfway through, and it’s also easy to use. You can adjust the angle against the sun without breaking a sweat.

The Natural Instinct Beach Umbrella has a screw pole base, so installing it was easy. On the other hand, it’s not threaded deeply, rendering it a bit weak against strong winds. The aluminum ribs underneath the canopy keep it from flipping inside out since there’s no vent on top to allow air to escape.

This Sunday Supply Co. Sun shelter is a well-built option, ready to keep away harmful sun rays but can’t stand up against gusts. It is lovely, though. If you’re willing to invest more than $250, like the look, its ease of use, and don’t think you’ll be facing strong winds by the beach, the Natural Instinct Beach Umbrella is for you.

Design and Construction

This beach shade from Sunday Supply Co.has a vintage nautical look with its hand-drawn lines, and cotton tassels. It stands 2.3 meters high, and its canopy is 2 meters wide, providing you with lots of shade.

The Natural Instinct Beach Umbrella has a polyester canopy, timber pole, and aluminum alloy ribs. Polyester is well-known in the outdoors industry for being lightweight, durable, and cost-effective. Whether it’s a beach chair, beach wagon, or beach blanket, there’s undoubtedly a polyester-made version. Compared to a sun shelter with a nylon canopy, it’s wrinkle-resistant and doesn’t shrink when exposed to heat. Though it may not be as tough as acrylic ones like Frankford Umbrellas, this Sunday Supply Co. beach umbrella provides a reliable canopy that can decently take abuse over time. It won’t tear after a handful of uses.

The timber pole is FSC-approved. It means you can trust that the company is ethically sourcing their wooden hardware. It adds to the timeless beauty of the Natural Instinct. It’s strong enough to get the job done, but you might have to worry about it absorbing water, compromising its durability over time. Aluminum poles like on the AMMSUN 7’ Heavy Duty Beach Umbrella, or better yet, rust-proof anodized aluminum poles like the one the EasyGo has, will last longer.

On the other hand, this sun shelter from Sunday Supply Co. has powder-coated aluminum alloy ribs to give them better strength. They keep the shape of this sun shade well and don’t snap as we experienced with the Qipi Beach Cabana.

Performance

With UPF50+ sun protection on the polyester canopy, you remain safe from 98% of harmful UV rays. That’s better than the SPF 25+ you’ll have from the Dig-git Beach Umbrella.

Stability-wise, although the Natural Instinct Beach Umbrella is well built, the screw base of the pole doesn’t anchor into the sand firmly. It’s not threaded deeply enough, and it can’t stand up against strong winds like weighted ones such as the BEACHBUB All-in-One and the Xbrellas can.

Not enough for solid stability.
Not enough for solid stability.

This beach shade from Sunday Supply Co. also lacks a vent to let air escape and help prevent it from flying off. But the ribs are robust and keep the canopy from flipping inside out.

The Natural Instinct Beach Umbrella offers a lot of coverage. It can shelter multiple people, making this sun shelter an ideal option for families.

Ease of Use

Setting up this Sunday Supply Co. sun shade is simple- unfold the pole, stake the base into the sand, open up the canopy, and it’s ready for use. Tilt it against the angle of the sun for maximum coverage. We appreciate this little tilting mechanism working smoothly, making canopy adjustments easy. There’s no need to pull the entire beach shade out as we did with the Sport-Brella Portable.

Easy to set up and adjust.
Easy to set up and adjust.

The direction it is tilted does affect its stability against gusts of wind. Investing a few more minutes loading up sandbags in a shade model like the Sunphio Portable might be worth the trade-off.

Portability

At 12.3 lbs., the Sunday Supply Co. Natural Instinct Beach Umbrella is not the lightest sun shade out there. Alternative models like the Tommy Bahama Beach Umbrella only weigh 4.84 lbs., making it more travel-friendly. But it comes with a matching carrying bag so walking to the shore won’t be as laborious. If you have a beach wagon, you don’t have to worry about this.

Price/Quality

For a $250+ sun shelter, the Natural Instinct Beach Umbrella comes at a high price. It comes with high-quality construction, beautiful design, UPF50+ protection, and is easy to set up and adjust. It also has a matching carrying bag. This sun shade does perform well against the sun, but when strong winds come into play, it may fly off, and you’ll have to stake it into the sand again. You’ll probably need to invest in an additional anchor, which also means more money out of your pocket.
