It’s not the most competitive for gray, drizzling days but definitely a must-try during clear ones. Sun Ninja Beach Canopy seems to survive well for a pretty fair price!

Construction and Design

Sun Ninja Beach Canopy comes to you in a complete package for easy assembly. There’s a sand shovel, bungee cord ties, poles, pegs, tent fabric, and a carry bag. Choose from four refreshing colors- Green, Navy, Royal Blue, and Turquoise.

You can choose from a couple of sizes: 7×7.5 and 10×10. The first one is good for couples and can fit up to four people with all four poles up. The bigger Sun Ninja Beach Canopy is an 8-person shader.

The canopy material itself is elastic spandex. It feels extra smooth to touch, ultra-lightweight, and super stretchy. Although it’s not as water-resistant as it claims, this beach canopy from Sun Ninja won’t disappoint on a sunny day.

If you don’t mind the additional weight in exchange for more protection when it drizzles, polyester-made alternatives like Sport-Brella Vented or nylon ones like Neso Tents Beach are good options.

The section that connects the canopy to each sandbag is solid. It’s not just a couple of strings like in Otentik Beach Sunshade or Red Suricata. We have no worries that might snap out of nowhere. Plus, the triple-reinforced stitching guarantees durability.

Sun Ninja Beach Canopy has UPF50+ to keep you safe from harmful rays. It keeps out around 98% of the sun compared to when you’re fully exposed. You’ll enjoy the same benefit in ZiggyShade Family and Artik Family Beach Canopy.

You can unrig the poles and set them up instantly thanks to the bungee string that runs from end to end. You can opt for a 2-pole or 4-pole purchase, but we liked the latter better for stability. 2-pole can sometimes be a pain acting like a parachute on a windy day.

You’ll notice a rubber ball at one end of each pole. This part has to be the one touching the fabric of your beach canopy. It protects the material from tearing.

On the other end, there’s nothing special to give extra amp in its stability like a pointed end as we have seen in Red Suricata or a broad flat base like in Neso Tents Grande.

Sun Ninja valued staying lightweight over anything else. And this attempt compromised the quality of its build a bit, but not to a deal-breaking point.

Stability

After testing against strong winds going 10 mph, we were worried it would not hold up, but surprisingly it did. It was flimsy as it may look, but Sun Ninja managed to withstand the gusts. However, if you’ll face brutal blows beyond that range, it’s better to get a beach canopy with solid framing like EzyFast Elegant Pop.

In general, these types of beach canopies depend on the overall tension of your setup. The lesser tension there is, the more wobbly it will be. You can solve this by stretching the sandbags further out and packing them more. Doing so will give your Sun Ninja heavier anchors and won’t snap back. Tighten up the bungee strap and angle the poles against the wind direction.

This beach canopy from Sun Ninja isn’t the most stable, but it gets the job done without breaking. And if there aren’t any strong gusts by the shore, you won’t have any problem.

Ease of Use

To assemble your Sun Ninja Beach Canopy, spread the fabric across the sand. After that, grab the shovel and fill each sandbag, and make sure you pack it to the point of overflowing. This way, you ensure that it’s properly anchored. Then, take the poles and set them up. Lock each section together and sneak them under each corner of the fabric. Remember to make sure that the rubber ball ends of each pole are the ones touching the material to avoid ripping. Secure them in place using the bungee cords for each bar.

If you’re not at the shores,  you can still use your Sun Ninja Beach Canopy in your garden. Instead of filling with sand, you’ll see a loop in each bag where you can anchor a peg. Do the same setup process after setting up each corner, and it’s good to go!

What we’re not crazy about

We can’t stress it any better. Sun Ninja Beach Canopy prioritizes lightweightness. And like other gear, staying lightweight and compact comes with a bargain- features. You won’t find extra water bottle holsters like you would in the EzyFast. You can’t let the walls down once the sun changes angle like in SportBrella.

These tiny ticks might not bother most people. But as for the removable walls, they would be an excellent add-on for any beach canopy. It’s simply convenient to have for just-in-case situations.

Summary

For around $115, Sun Ninja Beach Canopy is a reasonably priced model. It’s not perfect. But for its portability, enough stability, and durability, you get the service of a good quality beach canopy. 

It’s a versatile option you can use on sand and ground settings. Assemble as a 2-pole or 4-pole setup in less than five minutes, and you have the rest of the day to have fun.
