Product review:
Crossover Canopy Tent

Designed to protect you from the sun, shelter from the wind, and keep you dry in the rain, Sport Brella Portable Sun&Rain Beach Umbrella is a XL tie down shelter.

It’s the retractable side-flaps, with windows, along with the height and canopy setting that sets this one apart and makes it useful for different activities.

We’re talking about sporting events, backyard parties, camping trips, and, you guessed it, beaches. But is this more-than-a-beach-umbrella product great in every setting, or does it compromise too much.

We looked at the Sport Brella beach umbrella to see the extent of its usefulness and quality–and to measure its value against other similar sunshade options.

Spending all day outside watching your kids play football or chilling at the beach seems like a good idea in theory but there’s a lot that can go wrong. Does it stand well against winds and how sturdy is it, are questions we look at.

Here’s where having a portable beach umbrella like the Sport Brella XL Sun&Shine comes in handy.

We’re glad to report that it did meet our criteria of having all the features that a high-quality piece of beach gear should have. It’s proved to be UV-rays-resistant, water-repellent, and more spacious than most beach umbrellas. The carrying case was the cherry on top that most travelers will appreciate too.

And yet, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. If the weather is windy and you have minimum experience with anchoring beach umbrellas, it might take you some time to figure out how to install this one.

Depending on the terrain, the plugs that set the flaps in the ground may not hold as well, requiring a little extra effort with a rock or a bag full of sand. But it’s little compared to the enclosure that’s possible here.

Quality

This is where the Sport Brella Sun&Rain beach umbrella shines; it’s built from durable materials that are made to last. We’re talking about the abrasion-resistant 210-Denier Polyester canopy with a 50+ UPF rating and steel ribs and stretchers. Further equipped with top wind vents and side flaps, the umbrella is constructed with longevity in mind.

The telescoping pole has a metal tip that’s held in place by the steel screw for additional stability. It might not be flawless from the design point of view, but it does the job of keeping you sheltered from the harsh sun rays well.

Features

Sport Brella XL portable beach umbrella comes with everything you need to prop it up and forget it’s there. Apart from the stabilizing telescoping pole, side windows and side flaps with a pocket, there are four steel ground stakes, four hooked ground stakes, and three 8-foot tie-down cords for securing the umbrella to the ground.

Ease of use

Even though it might be difficult to set it up in windy conditions, the tie downs on the Sport Brella can be easily done with two people. Just hold the bottom part of the pole and firmly push it into the moist part of the sand and you’re good to go (i.e. relax in the shade).

The setup won’t take you more than 5 minutes and nor will the process of taking it down. In the collapsed state, the umbrella is 54x4x4 inches which makes it a great candidate for travel adventures. Pack it in the carrying case it comes with, and rest assured that your entire family will be protected from the sun when chilling under this umbrella, rain or shine.

Performance

As long as the stakes are properly attached to the ground, you can rely on your Sport Brella beach umbrella to keep you sunburn-free. It stays put no matter the weather and gives you the opportunity to read a book when camping during the weekend or sip a cocktail while watching your kids play in the sand.

Sure, it would’ve been nice if you could tilt your Sport Brella, but the 8-foot width makes up for this flaw well. If anything, it allows you to bring it to the environments where there’s lawn and dirt and be certain that the wind won’t blow your umbrella up.

Price/Quality

The value you’re getting when purchasing this beach umbrella is a good one. Given that you’re able to fit a small family and cooler, it does more than most models.

The quality combined with the functionality makes it a worthwhile purchase that’ll last you a long time with proper care. Take your time to learn how to install it, carry it in the case that comes with the purchase, and you’ll preserve the integrity of the umbrella just fine.

Do we recommend the Sport Brella XL Portable Sun&Rain Beach Umbrella?

If traveling to exotic destinations with beaches is on your agenda, buying Sport Brella’s XL Portable Sun&Rain beach umbrella is your safest bet. You would need to practice installing it at your local beach (if you’re not familiar with setting up beach umbrellas) so that you don’t face any challenges when using it on a remote island somewhere in the Pacific.
