Features

It is made of quality fabric.

The MEWAY 6.5’ Beach Umbrella has a canopy made of 160 GSM polyester fabric with thick PA coating This fabric is fade-resistant, waterproof, and easy to clean, so the print won’t fade away easily after months or even years of use.

More importantly, it has a UPF rating of 50+, the highest rating possible that indicates a fabric’s ability to block as much as 98% of harmful UV rays. With these basic features, this beach umbrella essentially fulfills its purpose.

Many beach umbrellas today, such as the AMMSUN 6.5’ Beach Umbrella and Blissun 7.2′ Portable Beach Umbrella With Carry Bag, are designed with a tilt mechanism. This feature makes it easier for you to adjust the angle of the canopy to attain optimal protection from the sun.

All you have to do is push the tilt mechanism button to adjust the canopy and block the sun completely wherever it may be positioned throughout the day. If sand grains get into the joint, it could stick.

It has a solid frame and support.

Unlike most beach umbrellas that typically come with six fiberglass ribs, the MEWAY 6.5’ Beach Umbrella has eight to provide a solid frame that can resist light to moderate winds. These ribs are complemented by the telescoping steel pole with a diameter of 1.26”.

With the telescoping design of this pole, you can adjust the height of your beach umbrella for maximum protection and comfort while lounging outdoors. Further, you can mount it quickly and sturdily on the ground using the sand anchor provided.

It features an air-vented canopy.

The 6.5’ canopy of this beach umbrella is air-vented to facilitate airflow properly. This feature helps optimize stability, especially when the winds are blowing strongly. While it does not guarantee that your beach umbrella will completely withstand harsh blows at all times, it contributes enough to combat light to moderate winds.

What we like

It has a low-maintenance and easy-to-clean fabric.

One of the best things about the MEWAY 6.5’ Beach Umbrella is its 160 GSM polyester fabric thickly coated with PA glue. This coating is one of the most affordable yet advantageous coatings for fabric.

With a PA coating, the color of this beach umbrella does not easily fade or turn yellow. The fabric is also able to resist sunlight and offer protection against 98% of UV rays, thanks to a UPF 50+ rating. It is easy to clean and maintain, so you rarely have to worry about the long-lasting quality of the fabric.

The canopy’s angle is adjustable.

A tilt mechanism is now a common feature in beach umbrellas, even those belonging to the mid-range price category. This beach umbrella has a basic tilt mechanism that lets you adjust the canopy’s angle using a push button. With a single push of a button, you can easily move the canopy and position it in the best way possible to block the sun completely.

It comes with a solid frame and adjustable pole.

While many beach umbrellas only have six ribs framing the canopy, the MEWAY 6.5’ Beach Umbrella has eight. These eight fiberglass ribs provide better support, essentially improving its wind resistance.

Meanwhile, the telescoping pole makes it possible for you to adjust the height of your beach umbrella. This adjustable feature of the pole, together with the tilt mechanism, allows you to achieve optimal sun protection without compromising your view.

A carry bag is included.

Unlike the high-end Frankford Emerald Coast Beach Umbrella, this beach umbrella comes with a carry bag. This inclusion is really helpful, especially for beach trips. You won’t have to purchase an add-on or stress yourself looking for a separate carry bag that can fit your beach umbrella. A carry bag enables you to bring your beach umbrella everywhere you go and easily store it after use.

What we don’t like

It won’t stand up against strong winds

For its price, the MEWAY 6.5’ Beach Umbrella is commendable enough. It delivers all our bare minimum expectations. It serves its purpose of providing protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays when it is erected on the sand and the canopy is fully open.

However, it is unlikely to last long if it is always exposed to strong winds. When winds blow harshly, it can flip inside out, which is dangerous. The sand anchor can easily become wobbly and the pole can quickly break, especially the bottom part and the component holding the top and bottom parts.

You may find yourself in the same spot, looking for another beach umbrella, after using this one a couple of times in areas with harsh, windy conditions.

The tilt mechanism can stick

If you are not used to adjusting beach umbrella canopies, you might be challenged by this beach umbrella’s tilt mechanism. It is quite difficult to put the canopy in a steady position, especially if and when winds are blowing strongly.

You will likely have to get up time and again just to achieve your desired angle for the canopy. To avoid such an instance, you might want to find and move to a less windy spot.

Conclusion

The MEWAY 6.5’ Beach Umbrella is a decent option for the casual strand visitor. It’s a pretty good parasol for a backyard with shelter from the wind, though.

If you are only hitting the beach once or twice a year, it is likely enough to meet your needs and expectations.

It has a protective fabric, which is easy to clean and maintain, and can block about 98% of harmful UV rays. Since it comes with a carry bag, you won’t have difficulties carrying it around.

However, this beach umbrella is not highly recommended for frequent beachgoers because it lacks a lot in the durability department. It can flip over and fall apart with one single blow of a strong wind, which can be dangerous outdoors and injure you or other people.

The sand anchor easily gets wobbly when subjected to the pressures of harsh winds. Despite having an air-vented canopy and eight fiberglass ribs, these features are only able to withstand light to moderate winds at best.

Don’t forget the sunscreen.

What is polyacrylate (PA) coating on a beach umbrella fabric?

A PA coating is one of the most commonly used and most affordable fabric coatings, and some beach umbrellas have it. This coating can resist fading and is pretty easy to clean. Further, it is conducive for producing colored coating materials and has strong adhesion, so it is ideal for making beach umbrella fabrics. The sunlight resistance is a welcome bonus, too.

How big is a normal beach umbrella?

Commonly, beach umbrellas have canopies with a diameter ranging between 6’ and 7’. Oversized models usually range between 7’ and 9’. Of course, the bigger the canopy, the better the coverage. The only problem with bigger canopies is that they tend to be bulky. Typically, a standard-sized beach umbrella will suffice, especially if it has a tilt mechanism that lets you adjust the angle accordingly.

Some good examples of beach umbrellas that come in both standard and large sizes are the Frankford Emerald Coast Beach Umbrella and the MEWAY Beach Umbrella. Both umbrellas are available in 6.5’ and 7.5’ options.

What is a sand anchor on a beach umbrella?

A sand anchor is what goes into the sand when you assemble a beach umbrella. After burying it into the sand, you connect it securely to the bottom pole of your beach umbrella to hold the umbrella steadily.

Most beach umbrellas come with sand anchors, while some models like the Frankford Emerald Coast Beach Umbrella don’t need it.
