If you are encountering folding carts for the first time, you can start with a simple and budget-friendly one. A good example is this MacSports WAGON CLASSIC, which is recommended for a variety of uses as long as it does not include hauling more than 130-145 lbs.

The MacSports WAGON CLASSIC is one of MacSports’ best-selling products. Designed to meet your everyday needs, it is first and foremost a budget model that is easy to store when not in use.

On that account, it does a good job of being simple, affordable, and functional. Occasionally, it can also help you haul stuff on your camping and fishing trips.

This wagon features a heavy-duty steel frame and the tried, tested and true, mildew resistant 600D fabric. These materials are fairly easy to clean with water or dishwasher soap and are proven to last for years. With impressive construction–considering the price–this cart can carry a load as heavy as 150 lbs.

But while 150 lbs is a can-do scenario over smooth surfaces (i.e. concrete), it’s not advisable. That’s because, while the frame is pretty solid on its own, the soldering will give way if stressed too much.

Nonetheless, this folding wagon is lightweight and easily transportable. It folds neatly when not in use, so you can store it in its dedicated carry bag.

With the MacSports WAGON CLASSIC’s compact and portable design, you can bring it everywhere to haul your things. It opens and closes down in a breeze since no assembly or tools are required to put it together or fold it down.

Compared to the Timber Ridge Ironwood collapsible cart, for example, the MacSports Classic is cheaper, has better wheels in terms of going silent, but also won’t stand up as well when folded. Nor does it move around as easily when in its collapsed, storage mode.

This wagon can carry a load as heavy as 150 lbs. It’s a pretty standard weight capacity for groceries and even transporting a kid plus essentials.

It comes with a telescoping adjustable handle that allows for effortless transport across various surfaces. Moreover, this handle extends and locks.

When not in use, this wagon can be folded and stored in the carrying cover included with your purchase. Its accordion-style floor allows you to open and close it in seconds. No assembly or tools are required for set-up.

That means that it comes in handy as a standard piece of equipment in the trunk of your car, making a trip to the hardware store easy on your arms and back. Think about buying a couple of bags of soil for your flower beds, carrying them from the car to your back lawn isn’t fun. That’s why collapsible wagons are so much in vogue these days. What we like

One of the best features of this wagon is its foldable design. It collapses flat neatly and easily. When you are ready to store it, you can attach the handles together using velcro. A carry bag is included for convenient storage and portability.

For a wagon with a steel frame, this cart is relatively lightweight. You can easily carry it to haul your stuff or groceries, especially with the carry bag provided.

Additionally, the MacSports WAGON CLASSIC is easy to set up and break down, as it requires no assembly. You can put it up or down in less than a minute without using any tools. This simplicity will benefit you if you are not familiar with how folding wagons work.

For a budget-friendly wagon, this product has pretty decent maneuverability. The lighter the load and the smoother the terrain, the easier it is to maneuver.

Helping you steer this cart is the telescoping handle. This handle extends and locks, allowing for effortless navigation even as the load gets heavier. Moreover, it is pretty easy to adjust.

The MacSports WAGON CLASSIC’s frame and fabric are durable. Built to last, the frame is made of heavy-duty, powder-coated steel. Meanwhile, the 600D fabric is mildew and UV resistant, so it is practically easy to maintain.

Another added value that comes with this cart is the drink holders. These cup holders come in handy when you have a pretty bulky load to carry in long distances, and you need an ice-cold drink at the tip of your fingers.

Overall, this wagon is reasonably sturdy for a budget-friendly folding wagon. The materials are generally rigid.

What we don’t like

MacSports claims that this wagon can carry up to 150 lbs in one go. However, it becomes harder to control as soon as it hits the halfway mark of that maximum carrying capacity. At best, it can carry 60 to 70 lbs. without giving you a hard time unless you’ve got some above average muscles.

What’s more, is that even though you might be strong enough to pull cargo over even asphalt will little difficulty, the soldering at the joints of the frame can buckle when pressed and stressed at 140 or more pounds. So, it’s not advisable to carry more than 130 pounds.

For a more robust foldable wagon that can carry larger loads, the Sekey Classic does this in the same form function–albeit with more features–as the MacSport Classic. Though Sekey’s costs are significantly higher, it could bring more utility and joy to the jobs around the house and outings elsewhere.

While we didn’t test this factor, there are a couple of video tests online that demonstrate this consequence of overestimating a collapsible wagon’s ability to withstand the excessive weight.

There is also a significant difference between the MacSports WAGON CLASSIC’s wheels and that of the more durable MacSports HEAVY DUTY WAGON. While they are wide enough for hassle-free transport on solid surfaces, they are not built for soft sand. This wagon is impossible to maneuver on loose sand without getting stuck.

Another issue with this MacSports wagon’s wheels is that they are not as sturdy as the frame and fabric. They tend to break or fall off quickly, especially if you use them on rough terrain. Moreover, they do not have safety brakes or locks.

Further, this wagon cannot stand on its own when stored. When collapsed and packed in the carry bag, it needs to lean against the wall or any supporting material.

Conclusion

While the MacSports WAGON CLASSIC claims to be suitable for various applications, we find it at its best when used for carrying your groceries or some light equipment at home. It also works best on solid ground.
