Cascade Mountain Tech’s Low Profile Camp Chair is a foldable seat that won’t break the bank. Its name speaks for itself — the chair is technical enough to accommodate you in rougher conditions, all while being portable and easy to assemble and disassemble.

The 4k+ Amazon reviews prove that CMT’s chair is worth looking deeper into for the beach and other outdoor scenarios. Although it’s mainly designed for people with a more petite frame, the buyers almost unanimously agree that it’s one of the sturdiest foldable chairs on the market.

If you’re looking for an easy-to-carry camp chair that would also be beach- and festival-friendly, this chair is for you. While it does have some drawbacks that might be a non-negotiable for some, it’s a great all-around chair that does what it says it will without any compromises.

Cascade Mountain Tech Chair is convenient to use on the beach

We’re not going to lie — the overwhelming hype around Cascade Mountain Tech’s chair got us so excited to put it to the test that we had to order it right away. Having tested the Tommy Bahama Backpack chair and Rio Beach Classic Folding chair in the past, we were curious to see how this number would compare to them. Safe to say, we were pleasantly surprised by the overall performance of the chair.

A word of caution — if you need a chair that would recline, CMT’s Low-Profile chair is not the one for you. Compared to the Tommy Bahama Backpack chair with five reclining positions, this one offers a single angle you’ll have to get accustomed to.

If the lack of reclining positions doesn’t phase you, there’s a good chance that you’ll be taking this chair with you to every camping trip, beach getaway, and sporting event on your calendar. The storage bag with the shoulder straps makes it easy to throw the chair in your car’s trunk for quick and easy access.

Construction, Design, and Performance

Cascade Mountain Tech chair is well-built and will last you a long time

This low-profile camp chair is built from steel and aluminum frames, making it close to bulletproof. It also means that as long as you’re under 250 pounds, the Cascade Mountain Tech camp chair will hold you and not let you fall.

What’s more, the mesh fabric and the soft armrests ensure that you feel comfortable sitting in your chair all day long. Though the angles of the armrests aren’t as good as horizontal rests.

But for playing Uno with your friends on a camping site or watching your kids build sandcastles at the beach, you’ll remain comfortable for extended periods of time. You’ll want to sit in it until it’s time to go home.

Sitting just 9 inches off the ground, the chair offers you an excellent opportunity to stretch your legs out. You might spend more time standing up because of its low profile. Keep this in mind when deciding what beach chair to buy.

A wide and stable base combined with the backrest and reinforced feet somewhat makes up for the lack of the recline feature. You should be able to sit in a relaxed posture without changing your position every now and again. You should also be able to set it up on various ground surfaces.

Cascade Mountain Tech chair is compact, folds fast, and stows easily

We liked that you could fold and unfold the beach chair in seconds. There are no intricate details that would take a while to disassemble it before storing it away in the carry bag the chair comes with. It helps that the camp chair weighs as little as 7 pounds — even a teenager can handle setting up the chair on his own.

The chair is available in black, green, orange, and royal blue colors. If you’re not keen on having a boring black beach chair, you have the option to spice it up and get the orange version. Or, if you want to match it with your blue beach umbrella, buy it in the royal blue style, and you’re golden.

Final Thoughts

If you’re in the market for a low-profile, lightweight chair that can be used in various settings, this Cascade Mountain Tech number won’t disappoint. We didn’t find any severe faults that would prevent a typical beachgoer or a camping enthusiast from enjoying their time outside while sitting in this chair.

The chair is built from sturdy materials that make it last a long time without buying a new one. It’s also one of the most convenient to carry chairs we’ve tested, which can be attributed to the practical built and the handy storage bag that fits the chair perfectly.

Sure, it’s not the best option for those on the taller and heavier side, but there are other beach chairs catering to those individuals. It also lacks a reclining feature, although we didn’t find this an issue since the default design makes it comfortable to sit in for hours on end. You can also look past the low-to-the-ground construction, given that it allows you to rest your legs in front of you for an added level of comfort.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What material are beach chairs made from?

Beach chairs are made from plastic, aluminum steel, or wood. They also typically feature nylon mesh fabric or marine-grade canvas and are often coated with saltwater-resistant material. The most famous beach chairs on the market are made from plastic resin or alloy steel, as these materials tend to last the longest.

What are the best beach chairs?

A high-quality beach chair should be built from durable materials, be lightweight, and make you feel comfortable when sitting on it. It’s also a nice bonus if a beach chair has additional features like multiple reclining positions, a cup holder, or a canopy. Here are our favorite beach chairs:

What heights do beach chairs come in?

Typically the seat of beach chairs is anywhere between 8 and 12 inches. This height accommodates people of most heights, making it a standard size for most beach chairs. That said, beach chairs under 8 inches allow you to stretch out your legs and dip your toes in the water. Those above 12 inches, on the other hand, are best for those who find it difficult to stand up from chairs set too low to the ground.

How much weight can a beach chair hold?

The rule of thumb is that the more heavy-duty the beach chair is, the more weight it can hold. Beach chairs made from steel and wood will be able to hold 200-300 pounds, while the ones made from lightweight aluminum and synthetic resin will likely not accommodate beachgoers weighing over 200 pounds.

Although most folding beach chairs can easily hold up to 400 pounds, low-gravity beach chairs have a 300-pounds weight limit. Some beach chairs designed specifically for plus-size users can hold 500+ pounds.
