What You Need to Know

Heated undersuits that are designed for divers to wear under a drysuit or a wetsuit have been around for a while. These vests have tended to be on the bulky side in the past, with wires from the battery pack to the control panel making them quite cumbersome while diving. But Venture Heat has changed all that by incorporating wireless technology in its new product.

Below is a round-up of all you need to know about the 40W Heated Undersuit Pro if you’re thinking of investing.

Flexible heated panels

This vest-style lightweight undersuit has two heat panels located on the front and back. These flexible panels are made up of a coiled element which is powered by two 5200mAh lithium-ion batteries. When activated, the heating system provides 40 watts of warmth to the torso for up to five hours. The whole heating system is designed to be fully waterproof and is rated to 300 feet (100m).

Wireless control

This is where it gets exciting. Many other undersuits have a wire attaching the battery pack to the control panel. This can be slightly uncomfortable and get in the way, especially underwater. But by using wireless technology, Venture Heat have eliminated the need for any wires or leads. To activate the heating panels, you simply press a button on the wrist-mounted remote control. You have the option of three different temperature settings to choose from.

Haptic status feedback

Also incorporated into the 40W Heated Undersuit Pro is a haptic status receiver. Basically, this means there is a device attached to the undersuit that provides feedback to the user by sending out pulses. These pulses indicate which of the three heat levels the vest is set to. This is a great feature as you’ll know what heat setting you’ve selected even in poor visibility.

How Cold Water Influences Divers

Most of us know that thermal protection is a must for dives. For a lot of us, we never need more than a wetsuit or a drysuit. But when diving in extreme conditions, proper thermoregulatory support is essential. Here’s how your thermal balance and safety are related to one another:

Body Cooling

When our bodies are too cold on a dive and our core temperature has fallen, we may begin to think and/or act in ways that are not ideal. Plus, when our hands are not capable of performing key tasks swiftly, such as switching gas or unclipping a hook, it could impact on safety.

Blood Vessels Constrict

It is a well-known fact that blood vessels constrict in low temperatures. Once constricted, these vessels pose a threat to safe decompression because constricted blood vessels slow down the body’s circulation of blood. And slower circulatory function means slower decompression.

A knock-on effect is decreased blood flow to the extremities, including the hands.

Increased Gas Consumption

More often than not, divers’ gas consumption rate is affected by cold water. We breathe more gas and need more gas as our bodies cool down. Regulating our core body temperature may mean we regulate our breathing rate.

Venture Heat’s After Sales and Servicing Support

Venture Heat offers a 30-day return or exchange policy if you are not completely satisfied with the undersuit. As long as the product is unused, you can fill in this form to exchange it for a different size or request a refund.

The 40W Heated Undersuit Pro is also covered by a one-year manufacturer warranty from the date of purchase. If anything goes wrong during this time, such as a non-charging battery or if the undersuit stops heating, you can request a free replacement.
